Basic of Joining the Team

How much time will be required to join the team?

The Pirates typically practice once a weekend in April and May, Twice a week in June, and twice a week during the season with all games on Saturday afternoons and evenings.

What is the Cost to play for the Pirates?

There is $75 player fee for each player. This helps cover the cost of league fees, field rental, refs, and other costs of running a football team. There is a New Player Fee of $100. This will cover the cost of a new jersey, a practice jersey, game pants, and a t-shirt. These fees are non-refundable.

Does the team provide equipment?

Beyond practice drill props and footballs, NO. The Madison Co Pirates cannot provide each player with their equipment for two reasons. First, the cost of doing such would make running this team or joining this team too expensive for anyone. Second, the liability insurance to provide such a service would be astronomical. The Pirates will however provide players with locations and opportunities to buy new and used equipment throughout the year.

Does the Madison Co Pirates have tryouts?

The Pirates do not have specific tryouts for each position.

What color of Helmet do I need to buy?

The Pirates have a Metalic Silver Helment with Black Facemask. If you can find a helment of a different color, the team will panit your helment for you at no cost.

General Information

What is Semi-Pro Football?

Semi-Pro Football is full contact football, just like you watch on TV on Sundays. Players are made of men usually from the age of 18 to 40 who aren’t content with playing on 7-7 touch or flag football teams you can find at your local YMCA. We are also made up of players that weren’t satisfied with just giving up the sport after our senior year in school. Some of us are players that never won a championship or state title and feel we have unfinished business. Some of us play to as a refuge to the daily grinds of life, work, school, and families. We love the game and have fun being able to pad up and go hit someone.

Does the team have insurance for the players?

The Madison Co Pirates does not cover insurance for individual players. Each player is responsible for finding their own insurance.

What is our team goal?

Our goal is to provide opportunities for men in Central / East Central Indiana to play organized full contact football. Whether it is for the guy who feels like he has something to prove, who hopes to play college ball, or perhaps who just loves the game. We want to give these men a opportunity to play the sport they love. Our goal is to be successful on and off the field. We work to be a championship team each and every year. We also give back to the community, teaching the next generation the game and skills of Football. Our team also has the priority motto: 1) Family 2) Work 3) Football. No exceptions. This is a game, and it should be treated as such.

What are the chances of being recruited to the next level of football from Semi-Pro Football?

Some players tryout for arena football and pro teams while playing in semi-pro league. Only a few players get an opportunity to move up and being such, while we will help you in any way needed if such a case were to arise. More of our players use semi-pro as a stepping stone to college ball than indoor or arena ball.

What skill level do I need to be able to play for the Pirates?

Semi-Pro teams are made up of all skill levels from beginner to college level. Most players have high school and/or college level experience, however all players are welcome to join the Pirates.

Playing Time & Eligibility

Are players guaranteed playing time?

The coaches are responsible for personal assignments and selecting starting players in each position. They look at a variety of factors including skill, practice performance, game performance, attendance, and attitude. No player is guaranteed playing time, but our coaches are aware that all players who paid their dues deserve their time on the field and will attempt to rotate players in as possible. If you think you are not getting your playing time ask yourself what you are doing during practice in order to make yourself noticed.

Are practices Mandatory?

Practices are not mandatory however, practices are where our coaches teach the plays for the upcoming game each week and missing practice will greatly reduce your chances of playing on Saturday. If you have to miss a practice for whatever reason please contact your coach and let them know. There are always emergences and our coaches understand these situations.
